DAVE HOOVER - Head Coach

Mobile: (760) 559-5552

Office: (760) 245-4271, ext. 2663

When Dave Hoover was announced as the new Head Football Coach at Victor Valley College in 2000, the football program entered an era of unprecendented success. Coach Hoover has become the all-time wins leader, and virtually every school record holder has come in his tenure. He has guided the Rams to the first two bowl games in school history, and possesses the best single season record (9-1) of all-time Rams football teams. Four athletes have reached All-American status under coach, and twelve have made the All-State team.

With all that said, coach believes he is just getting started.

Coach Hoover has had many individual athletes achieve state and national recognition, as well as both offensive and defensive units ranking amongst the top in the state. His 2006 defense, led by defensive coordinator Dale Bunn, was the top defense in the state. It was that 2006 season that Serrano High School standout Justin Halas was both the conference player of the year and the state player of the year. In that same 2006 season, Lucerne Valley's own Michael Woods was the offensive player of the year, leading the Foothill Conference's top offense here at Victor Valley. The Rams have been an offensive power throughout Hoover's tenure, including the 2008 season in which VVC has the 4th ranked offense in all of the the SCFA.

Individually, Coach Hoover has had the top rusher in the state in Kenny Thomas, as well as all-state running backs in Ryan Gilbert and Isaac Newton. Jamel Richardson has led the state in both receptions and total yards. Jahan Jones led the state in yards per catch. Both Justin Halas and John McCoy were players of the year defensively from the linebacker position. Virtually every position on the football field has had an all-state athlete represented by Rams Football.

Highlights from Coach Hoover's career include two Metro League Championships while at Pasadena City College, a PCAA and California Bowl Championship while at the University of Nevada - Las Vegas, and a National Championship while at the University of Massachusetts. Hoover has coached three Division One All Americans, and currently has two linemen starting in the NFL. L.J. Shelton, whom Hoover coached at Eastern Michigan University, was a 1st round draft pick of the Arizona Cardinals. Ickey Woods of UNLV and Marcell Shipp of UMass both were among the leading rushers in the nation behind Hoover-coached lines.

It has taken some time, but Coach Hoover believes that Rams Football is ready to step into state and national prominence. They have been knocking at the door, and the 2009 season is when they'll break through.

DALE BUNN - Defensive Coordinator

Dale Bunn has been the defensive coordinator at Victor Valley College since 2000, and has created a defense known for its attacking, aggressive style. Many VVC athletes have benefited from Coach's system, including all-state athletes Justin Halas, Charlton Hankston, John McCoy, Duane Paul and Kevin Stanley. Both Halas and McCoy were the Defensive Players of the Year for the Foothill Conference during their seasons, with Halas also being the Player of the Year for the entire state. Kevin Stanley also had the recognition of being named the Defensive MVP of the Potato Bowl.

Bunn's best work may have been in the 2006 season, when the Rams led the state in total defense and scoring defense. Three defensive players were given all-state recognition, an amazing number for one team.

Bunn, a native of Monrovia, was the CIF player of the year as a quarterback at Monrovia High School in 1974, and a JC All-American at Citrus College. He played his collegiate ball at Cal State Fullerton, and also spent three seasons as a quarterback and receiver in the Canadian Football League with the Calgary Stampede.

Coach Bunn coached quarterbacks, receivers and defense at Cal State Fullerton from 1983-1990. He had the same duties at Cal State Northridge from 1991-1994. Dale spent successive seasons coaching the defensive backs at the University of LaVerne, Citrus College and Cal Poly San Luis Obispo from 1995-1997. Bunn's last stop before taking over the VVC defense was at Pasadena City College.

DARNELL CROWDER - Wide Receivers

Coach Crowder is entering his 5th season here at Victor Valley College. His first year he was a secondary coach helping mold Travis Dunn, Jon Carraway, Keith Stanley, DeShawn Richards, and Ahmad Harris. Since then he's been in charge of the wide receivers. Since Crowder took over receivers, the passing game has solidified its position as consistently one of the tops in state. He's had state leaders in Michael Woods (QB), Jahan Jones, and Anthony Berry.

Coach Crowder is a local product that led Victor Valley High School to 3 league championships at QB and WR before playing for Coach Hoover at VVC. There he was a 2x all-conference WR that shattered all the receiving records while also teaming up with Jamel Richardson as the best 1-2 punch in the state. He then earned a scholarship to New Mexico Highlands University where he led the team in all receiving categories. After 3 years in the arena leagues of playing WR/LB, Crowder decided to shift his focus to his scholastic and professional future.
